C'est La Vie

C'est La Vie
Out on her roof, under the sky,
At the cigarette's end I said, 'Farewell thee, goodbye'.
With constellations as my council and guide,
and the road calling me at night.
I've circled the earth, meandering,
But into her arms my thoughts return...again and again.
As I stared at her wide-eyed,
'It’s just love’, she replied.
It’s brighter than fireworks in the rain,
Deeper than an ocean in a well.
'It's not the end of the world,
it is just how it is.'
'C’est la vie', she said.
With a sailor's mouth and saintly smile,
and that burning longing look in her eyes,
Like the scent of memories and the colour of time.
Pressed between the pages, bottled like wine...
Like secrets, never ever whispered.
Warm caresses, promises, 'all will be fine'.
As I stared at her wide-eyed,
'It’s just love', she replied.
It’s brighter than fireworks in the rain,
Deeper than an ocean in a well.
'It's not the end of the world,
it is just how it is'.
'C’est la vie', she said.
And the winds of time,
They leave all behind.
Like fireworks in the rain,
Like ships in the night.
Those words on your tongue,
Those oceans in your eyes,
And the breath of the breeze...between you and me.
Plain for all to see.
'C’est la vie', she said.

Pictures In A Frame

Pictures In A Frame
Open the gate and I walk in,
This was the kingdom of our youth
The garden glows with magic,
The halls hang heavy with pictures,
Pictures of you.
Blue bicycles stationary in black and white,
Summer kids displayed like trophies in the sun,
The newlyweds glittering with faith and hope,
Sun-kissed, sepia-colored laughs
And combed-back hair.
Just another Life, another mound in the ground.
Funny how your brightest day is just a picture now.
Where are you now?
A moth-eaten photograph in a wallet all folded up,
Some markings in a book, long forgotten,
A desk cluttered with ornaments and stories,
So many stories.
And combed-back hair.
Just another Life, another mound in the ground.
Funny how your brightest day, is just a picture now.
Where are you now?
Take your time, wear your hair down.
Before your laughing eyes, become another picture in a frame.
Just a faded picture in a frame.

Caveman

Caveman
I've got maps on my walls from places I've been but won't ever go again.
I've got masks on my walls from people I've been, but won't ever be again.
I'm never alone in my head, hear voices from afar.
Fingers pointed at me, 'just who do you think you are?'
I'm just a caveman, I'm out of my depth,
How could the waves come looking for me?
I'm just a caveman, I'm out of my depth,
Pulled into these waters when all I know is land.
Don't understand.
A rational animal swimming in irrational plans.
Thinking thoughts that would empty the world, but fill him in.
Questions heavier than the sky...oh my, oh why?
I'm just a caveman, I'm out of my depth,
How could the waves come looking for me?
I'm just a caveman, I'm out of my depth,
Looking for some shade but all I see is sky.
Oh why, oh why?
Ominous clouds bring glad tidings from afar.
For this caveman, a ship-wrecked caveman,
For this caveman, “Don't want to go back,” caveman. .

Little Star

Little Star
Twinkle, twinkle Little Star,
How I wonder where you are.
It’s been a while since I saw you last,
Out on the corner, in the cold with your bags.
Thumbing your way to the city of lights,
The world on your shoulders, tears in your eyes.
Daddy never really loved you, and mother only pushed you far.
But remember Little Star, ‘you have to burn to light up our dark’.
And all the while they were cutting her down,
She only carried them aloft.
And all the doors they closed on her,
She only opened up their world.
She could light up the night sky,
With that twinkle in her eyes.
Twinkle, twinkle Little Star,
They warned you ‘never be who you are!’
They said you’ll never be good enough,
That you’ll only bring them shame,
Funny, how the chips now fall,
You will be the one to write their name.
But now there’s a hole in the sky,
Where you once hung high.
And all the while they were cutting her down,
She only carried them aloft.
And all the doors they closed on her,
She only opened up their world.
She could light up the night sky,
I’ll never forget that look in her eyes.
We were just children, hiding from the truth.
But she knew then, she won’t have no time for youth.
So burn away my Little Star, burn away, burn away.
I often wonder just where you are.
Up above my world so high,
You will always be a diamond in my eyes.

Storm

Storm
There’s a storm brewing outside your window,
I say we go, gather some wood.
In the distance I can feel a rumbling,
Close the door before the rain blows…
Blows it all away.
When all of the love fades away,
When all of the lights disappear,
Let’s build a fire,
And set it all alright.
Let’s build a fire, build it way up high,
Let’s build a fire…
There’s no point in hiding,
What’s coming is going to come.
All that you build and fashion,
Will come undone.
‘Cause all that you build, will soon fall away,
And all that you hold, will never remain.
When all of the love fades away,
When all of the lights disappear,
Let’s build a fire,
And set it all alright.
Let’s build a fire, let’s build a fire.
Let’s build a fire, build it way up high.
Let’s build a fire, let’s build a fire.
Let’s build a fire, build it way up high.
Let’s build a fire, let’s build a fire.
Let’s build a fire, build it way up high.
Let’s build a fire…
